Can I come in and buy a cake or some cupcakes today?

No - everything here is made to order, we do not have a walk-in shop. Bespoke cake orders require at least 3 days' notice, and simple orders at least 24 hours.

How much notice do I have to give if I would like to order a cake?

We require an absolute minimum of 3 days' notice for all bespoke orders and 24 hours for simple ones (cupcakes or a cake with no bespoke design). At busy periods, or if your cake is particularly complex or requires items that need to be ordered in especially, this may be longer. Our 3 day notice period is the time when all the details of the order must be confirmed, so it is always worth getting in touch at least a week in advance to allow time for all those little details to be ironed out.

What designs can I choose from?

We do not have a catalogue of designs for you to choose from - everything is bespoke. You can take inspiration from our previous designs (see our extensive Gallery) or come up with something completely unique, either with
your own imagination, or having some help with ours.

When and how do I pay for my order?

For orders of over £100, we take a £50 deposit when you place your order, with the balance due 3 days before delivery or collection. For all other orders, full payment must be made no later than 3 days before delivery or collection. You can pay using PayPal, posting a cheque (if you allow sufficient time), making an online bank transfer or using your credit or debit card over the phone.

Where are you based and can I come in to see you?

We are based in studio 303 of the Zellig Building at the Custard Factory, which is on Gibb Street in Digbeth. It's best not to drop in as we might not be available, but if you call or email to arrange it we would be happy to meet you in person if you would rather talk through an order face to face.

I've seen a picture online of a cake I want - can you make it for me?

We like to use our own designs, but we are happy to take inspiration from pictures you have seen of cakes elsewhere. If you email over an image, we would be happy to provide a quote for something similar.

Are your cakes vegetarian?

Yes. We do not use any animal based products in our cakes or icing (aside from any specifically requested decorations). The majority of our flavourings are natural and alcohol free, but to be sure, please state when ordering that you would like the cake to be alcohol free and vegetarian so we can ensure no animal based or alcohol products are used.

Can you make gluten or dairy free cakes?

Yes. There is no extra cost for either a gluten free cake or a dairy (lactose) free cake - just request when ordering. We do work in an environment where we work with gluten on a daily basis, so this should be considered for anyone with a severe intolerance. We also have two vegan options for cakes which are both lactose and egg free.

Can you make eggless cakes?

We have two vegan options for cakes (not cupcakes) which are both eggless - see here for more details. 

Do your cakes contain nuts?

Certain cakes we make (such as fruit cake & carrot cake) do contain nuts, but otherwise our sponge cakes do not contain nuts. We take every care to ensure no nut traces are found in our products, but all our cakes are made in an area where nuts are present. If you have any allergens we need to be aware of, please let us know at the point of ordering.

How far away do you deliver and what are the costs?

We can deliver up to 20 miles from our studio in Birmingham (and sometimes a little further afield for weddings) - costs are based on the distance, and can be found on our Delivery website.

Are your classes suitable for beginners?

All of our classes are suitable for beginners - we don't assume any knowledge at the start of any class. However, there are certain classes you would probably benefit from more if you have a little experience. For example, our 'Model Behaviour' class would suit someone who has worked a little with sugarpaste before, and our Cake Decorating classes would be fine for a beginner, but you would probably get much more from it if you could already bake a cake and make buttercream. If you are unsure if you are suitable for a particular class, just get in touch and ask.
